Hot'Tlanta

Down to the Big City of the South. Out to Dobbins Air Force Base, then down Peachtree Street, Roxboro, and Buford. We ate dinner at the Havana Sandwich Shop. As far as I am concerned, this is the best place in the country to eat Cuban food north of La Teresita. We each had the the Cuban Plate and a small serving of platinos. That consists of half of a Cuban sandwich, a small bowl of black bean soup and a serving of rice. The rice is yellowed and contains a very few peas and is topped with a mild salsa – probably the result of onions being sauteed and then warmed with diced tomatoes – perhaps a heaping teaspoon is placed on top of the rice. The restaurant is located at 2905 Buford Highway. If you are going through Atlanta, take the Druid Hills exit 89. Stay in left lane if northbound. Go two short blocks to Buford Highway. Turn left and it is the second building on the left. For more information: http://www.havanasandwichshop.com/tour.html

On the way home we stopped for our first (and probably last) trip to the Mall of Georgia. Got a few birthday presents and did a little shopping. The mall is large. I like the way it curves in a bow so you don't have this long, straight, endless, line of stores always stretching out before and behind you. This way, you can focus at what is at hand and you are always having a new view unrolled before your eyes. I still prefer the mall at Pleasant Hill, just down the same interstate and only about 6 or 7 miles away. That one is surrounded by endless array of other mini-malls and stores, food markets and novelty shops. Just the place to go to once or twice a year to buy gifts and then happily flee from.
